We hit the ground running for our first 24 hours in Iceland. After a long day of flying and only 3 hours of sleep, a trip to the Blue Lagoon was just what we needed. It was the perfect morning to enjoy the 39°C lagoon and a brisk wind outside…summer Iceland is the perfect oasis for chilly comfortable with breathtaking views wherever you turn. And the Blue Lagoon was nothing short of beautiful. We spent a couple hours taking in the silica, algae, and all the other minerals of the lagoon with a complimentary mud mask that did wonders to my skin (let me tell ya it cures dry flight skin in a jiffy). Had a small world moment….we ended up meeting someone in the lagoon from Beckley, WV. I may venture out of WV but I’m always still close at heart.
We enjoyed a farm-to-table lunch spot known for their tomatoes & horses, Fridheimer. It was such a quaint experience sitting among the vines of tomatoes and relishing in the experience of simple cooking. Everything incorporated tomatoes – tomato beer, tomato tea, tomato cheesecake….everything tomato.
Our last trip of the day was to Gulfoss (a GIANT waterfall) with a substantial ravine that offers amazing views from the walking trail along the side. The key to Iceland is spontaneity…let the road lead you to another adventure right around the corner (or down a long stretch of road…there’s a lot of those here).
